Pingdom alternatives for MSPs
Published . Updated .
This page compares six uptime monitors an MSP might shortlist, using each vendor's own pricing page as it stood on 10 October 2026. Where a page did not say something, the cell says "not stated." Nothing here is a ranking.
Pingdom's page starts at $18 a month for 10 uptime checks and lists a free trial, not a free plan. UptimeRobot, Better Stack, and StatusCake each publish a free tier. The Watchbill's free plan covers 5 checks. We couldn't reach HetrixTools' pricing page, so its row is blank.
An MSP usually needs four things more than a single-site hobbyist does. The price should follow the number of checks, because clients are not equal in size. Each client needs a status page you can hand over without listing your other clients. Alerts should land where techs already work, which is often a PSA ticket. And the check interval should be something you can explain. The buying note turns that into a checklist. This page is the table.
What did each vendor's page actually say?
Figures below are copied from the pages linked in the last column, accessed 10 October 2026. UptimeRobot's page shows its prices in euros and notes that prices in other regions can differ, so those cells stay in euros. Annual prices are the per-month figure the page shows when a year is paid up front, where the page made that distinction. SMS, where a vendor lists it, is that vendor's word for text messages. It is not a Watchbill feature.
Pingdom's synthetic monitoring plans start at 10 uptime checks, 1 advanced check, and 50 SMS messages for $18 a month, or $16.50 a month billed annually. The same page lists larger bundles, including 25 uptime checks for $40 a month. It lists "Email and SMS alerting," "Maintenance windows," and "Public status pages and reports." It offers a free trial. It does not state a free plan or a check interval on that page. PSA is not stated. Pingdom's site also has an article about webhooks, but the table below lists only what the pricing page itself says.
UptimeRobot's pricing page lists Free at €0 for 50 monitors at 5 minutes, with 1 status page and no customization, and integrations named Google Chat, Discord, Pushover, Pushbullet, and Splunk. Solo starts at €10 a month (€9 on annual) for 10 monitors at 60 seconds, or 50 monitors from €22 (€19 annual). Team starts at €41 (€35 annual) for 100 monitors at 30 seconds and adds webhook, Zapier, and PagerDuty. The page does not state a PSA connector. It does not state US dollar prices for the plans.
Better Stack's pricing page lists a free tier at $0 with 10 monitors and heartbeats, 1 status page, and Slack and email alerts. A responder license is $34 a month or $29 a month on the yearly column. Additional 50 monitors are $25 a month or $21 on yearly. The uptime feature list says "Up to 30 seconds check frequency" and names phone, SMS, email, Slack, MS Teams, and webhooks. The free-tier bullet does not repeat an interval, so the free interval is not stated. PSA is not stated.
StatusCake's pricing page, with annual billing selected, shows Free at $0 per month, Superior at $20.41 per month ($24.49 if billed month to month), and Business at $66.66 per month ($79.99 if billed month to month). The uptime rows show 10, 100, and 300 monitors and intervals of 5 minutes, 1 minute, and 30 seconds, in that column order. Alert lines include email and "15+ third party integrations." Free SMS credits are none on Free, 75 on Superior, and 400 on Business. Status page counts are not stated on the plan cards we read. PSA is not stated.
HetrixTools' pricing page wasn't reachable when we checked, so every cell in its row says "not stated." We didn't substitute a price from a third-party site.

How The Watchbill helps
The Watchbill was built for the MSP needs this comparison started with. The price follows the number of checks: Free covers 5, Starter covers 50, Pro covers 100, and Business covers 250. Pro and Business can add blocks of 100 checks at $8.00 a month, and a yearly plan costs ten months' price. Each client can have its own status page, which stays private until you publish it, and on Pro and Business that page can carry your name and logo.
The biggest difference is where the alert lands. On Pro and Business, a confirmed outage can go straight to the ticket email address that ConnectWise, Autotask, HaloPSA, or Syncro already turns into tickets, and the recovery follows the same path. There's no REST connector into those products; ticket email is the route. A check is one HTTPS target, checked about every 60 seconds, and a site is marked down or up only after two consecutive minutes agree. The pricing page has the full plan list, and How uptime alerts become PSA tickets shows how to set up the ticket path.
When is another tool the better choice?
Pick another tool when you need something this table shows them offering and The Watchbill does not do.
You want a check faster than a minute, or a vote across several cities before an alert. Team and Business rows above list 30-second checks, and some pages list multi-location checks. The Watchbill confirms with two agreeing minutes from placement that is by region, best effort, and it does not label a city.
You want text-message alerts. Pingdom, Better Stack, and StatusCake list them. The Watchbill sends email, and on Pro and Business the four destinations in the table. It does not send text messages.
You want ping, port, or cron heartbeats as first-class checks. Better Stack and UptimeRobot describe those on the pages above. The Watchbill checks an HTTPS URL.
You want a status page with subscribers, a custom domain, and a large public audience. Better Stack lists those as priced add-ons. The Watchbill's page is a private link on thewatchbill.com until you publish it.
You want maintenance windows inside the monitor. Pingdom and Better Stack list them. You can still write the window into the contract and the status page. The product does not store a window or suppress alerts for one. That practice is covered in Should maintenance count on an SLA?.
If none of those are your gap, compare the entry price for the number of client sites you have and the path into your PSA. A cheap check that never becomes a ticket is a second inbox.
- Read the vendor page again before you quote a price. These cells are dated 10 October 2026.
- Keep euros as euros. Do not convert UptimeRobot in your head and call it a dollar price.
- Write "not stated" rather than borrow a number from a review site.
- Match the tool to the gap you actually have: interval, text alerts, or a ticket.
- Trial one client site before you move the list.
